Play JuJu Densetsu Online

Summary

JuJu Densetsu, known in the West as Toki, lets you swing through jungle stages as an enchanted ape who fires energy balls from his mouth. The Genesis version trims the quirky non‑spit power‑ups but adds extra levels and sharper graphics, giving the run‑and‑gun action a more polished feel. While the original arcade offered rabbit‑foot boosts, clocks, and a football‑style helmet, the Mega Drive/Genesis port focuses on the core spit mechanic and replaces the magic‑coin collectables with "food" that can earn extra lives.

A notable quirk is the name swap in several ports: the hero becomes "JuJu," the princess "Wanda," and the villain "Dr. Stark." Some versions even swap the final boss, putting the half‑invisible giant Bashtar at the end instead of the wizard Vookimedlo. These regional tweaks give the game a slightly different personality without changing its core challenge—dodging enemies, managing a stage timer, and mastering the ape’s powerful spit to clear the jungle and rescue the princess.

Storyline

In the Sega Genesis classic JuJu Densetsu—known in the West simply as Toki—the hero is a muscular, loincloth‑clad, Tarzanesque tribesman living a simple life on a South‑Sea island. His world shatters when the beautiful princess Miho, a potential suitor, is seized by the treacherous witch doctor Vookimedlo and taken to a golden palace atop the island.

Vookimedlo casts a curse that transforms every human on the island into beasts, and even Toki is turned into a Geeshergam, an ape‑like creature that still thinks like a man. The spell grants him fire‑breathing and projectile‑spitting abilities, which he uses to hunt down the shaman.

The quest leads Toki across murky lakes, steep canyons, icy mountain peaks and lava‑spewing volcanoes. Along the way he battles wild animals, mutated creations, and Vookimedlo’s guardian bosses, all in a bid to rescue Miho and lift the island’s curse.
