Summary
James Pond 2: Codename – RoboCod (sometimes just called Super James Pond) hands you an Inspector‑Gadget‑style stretch ability that lets you latch onto ceilings or stretch upward for hard‑to‑reach spots. The side‑scrolling stages are wrapped in toy‑centric themes—from sporting goods and candy to mini‑aircraft—each packed with secret passages and multiple exits.
You’ll explore 50 levels across two doors at a time, hunting two Penguin‑Biscuits‑style penguins per stage before cracking the exit. There are no guns, only jumps to flatten the quirky enemies, but occasional power‑ups grant extra lives, wings for brief flight, and even vehicle rides like cars, planes, or a flying bathtub.
After every pair of worlds a boss awaits, and the whole romp is set to Richard Joseph’s marimba‑rich take on the RoboCop theme. Critics were kind: Electronic Gaming Monthly scored it 7‑8 out of 10, Mega Action gave it 92 % and Mega placed it at #20 in the Top Mega Drive Games of All Time.
Storyline
James Pond 2: Codename – RoboCod picks up right after the events of its predecessor, when James has already demolished the Acme Oil Company. Dr. Maybe, his arch‑nemesis, escaped the destruction and fled to the North Pole, where he seized Santa’s workshop. He has taken the workshop’s workers hostage – in most versions they’re penguins, in others elves – and twisted many of them into dangerous assistants. The mission for James is to infiltrate Santa’s grotto, free the captive helpers, recover the stolen toys, and finally put an end to Dr. Maybe.
To handle the heightened danger, James is equipped with a robotic suit and the code name “RoboCod,” a nod to RoboCop. The suit grants him superhuman strength and agility, and even lets him stretch his midsection almost indefinitely to reach otherwise impossible heights. With these new abilities, he can navigate the icy fortress and confront the villain.
