Insector X is a horizontally scrolling shooter that feels surprisingly grounded on the Genesis. The console version swaps the original’s cute, cartoonish sprites for a more realistic art style, giving the alien insects a gritty edge while still keeping the game’s frantic pace. New music tracks replace the arcade’s tunes, adding a fresh, synth‑driven soundtrack that matches the upgraded visuals.

Beyond looks and sound, the Genesis port reshapes the gameplay: the secondary weapon system is completely reworked, the autofire power‑up disappears, and several brand‑new stage sections appear, expanding the level design. Hot‑B’s original vision finally shines through, as the hardware lets the team realize details that were trimmed for the arcade’s more comical direction requested by Taito.
