Summary

Gauntlet IV on the Sega Genesis expands the classic dungeon‑crawling chaos into four distinct play styles. In Arcade mode you can team up with up to three friends via the four‑player adapter, blasting through the original maze‑like levels, hunting keys, and grabbing food to offset the ever‑draining health meter. Quest mode, the game’s headline feature, drops you into brand‑new dungeons where gold collected from hub‑area merchants lets you buy weapons and level‑up your stats, while a simple save system lets you return to the four looming towers at your own pace. Battle mode turns the arena into a frantic deathmatch: projectiles ricochet, hidden power‑ups boost attributes, and forcing opponents out the exits scores a "ring‑out." Finally, Record mode offers a solo‑only arcade experience with password continues and a penalty system that chips away points for every 500 health lost. The soundtrack, crafted by Hitoshi Sakimoto and Masaharu Iwata, adds a memorable retro flair that helped the title earn rave scores from MegaTech and Mean Machines.
