Summary

Férias Frustradas do Pica-Pau, known casually as Woody Woodpecker's Frustrated Vacations, is a quirky Brazilian‑only platformer that first appeared on the Sega Mega Drive in 1996. The game’s visual charm comes from a consistent, non‑shaded cartoon aesthetic that feels like a moving comic strip, a rarity for the era.

You control Woody himself, swinging his iconic beak to fend off enemies while hopping across colorful platforms. The levels are peppered with money bags to collect, and you’ll need to dodge the occasional acorn projectile. The Mega Drive version throws in a rocket pack for burst speed and a horn that can rouse Wally Walrus, adding a playful twist to the core platforming.

Even though the title riffs on Brazil’s release of *National Lampoon’s Vacation*—renamed *Frustrated Vacations*—the game stays true to the slap‑slap‑happy spirit of Walter Lantz’s cartoons, making it a delightful hidden gem for anyone who loves retro platform action.

Storyline

In Ferias Frustradas do Pica-Pau (also known as Woody Woodpecker's Frustrated Vacation), Woody Woodpecker and his pals are cruising in a car toward a much‑anticipated holiday. While snapping a photo, a sudden flash causes the friends to vanish, and a dropped letter reveals that the nefarious Buzz Buzzard—called Zeca Urubu in the original Portuguese—has kidnapped them, starting with Andy Panda.

Determined to rescue his crew, Woody sets off on a cartoon‑filled quest. Along the way he must track down and free characters such as Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, battling through the game’s platform challenges until every friend is safely reclaimed.
