Summary

Exodus: Journey to the Promised Land feels like a hidden gem from the early ’90s, a title that never wore the official Sega seal. Born from Wisdom Tree’s unlicensed catalog, it is essentially a re‑skin of the earlier Color Dreams arcade‑style puzzler Crystal Mines. What sets it apart is the surprisingly cheerful soundtrack: each level hums a variation of the children’s hymn “Father Abraham,” turning a biblical adventure into a quirky sing‑along. The game’s modest graphics and simple controls mask a clever reuse of assets, making it a curious footnote in the era’s console wars.

Storyline

In Exodus: Journey to the Promised Land (often just called Exodus), you step into the sandals of Moses as he guides the Israelites through a sprawling labyrinth toward the Promised Land. Moses can fire glowing “W” symbols—representing the word of God—to vanquish foes and clear blocked paths. Each stage requires you to gather five question‑mark icons and a set amount of manna while dodging enemies such as magicians and soldiers. Upon completing a level, the game pauses for five multiple‑choice Bible questions; answering enough correctly rewards an extra life. The final 50 levels mirror the first 50 but with tougher opponents, and the intro screen lets you jump ahead in five‑level increments up to level 81.
