Summary

I first ran into Elf Wor on a dusty cartridge swap meet and was instantly puzzled by its identity crisis. The ROM header proudly displays "Elf Wor," yet the title screen flashes the Chinese characters 靈幻道士, which translates to "Spiritual Magic Priest," and the subtitle "Super Magician" appears in the same breath. Collectors also know it by the aliases Reigen Doushi and Revenge of Fu Manchu, making it a true naming enigma.

What makes the game stand out is its unlicensed status on the Sega Mega Drive, a product of the obscure developer Gamtec. Its gameplay feels like a direct homage to Zombies Ate My Neighbors, but the levels are drenched in an unmistakably Eastern aesthetic, swapping suburban horror for mythic temples and folklore‑laden backdrops.
