Summary

Earthworm Jim 2 keeps the wild, over‑the‑top vibe of the original while shaking up the formula with a barrage of oddball levels. Beyond the standard run‑and‑gun sections, I love how some stages turn into absurd mini‑games—guiding Jim‑in‑disguise through salamander‑style intestines in "Villi People," answering nonsensical trivia, or floating skyward as an inflated balloon while dodging Evil the Cat’s attacks.

New weapons like the auto‑aiming gun and the screen‑clearing Barn Blaster add genuine firepower, and the chip butty power‑up pushes Jim’s suit to a ridiculous 200 % energy. Snott tags along, acting as a cling‑on or parachute, which makes exploration feel fresh.

The Genesis edition was a Japan‑only Sega Channel release, later resurfacing on Wii Virtual Console in 2009. Critics were split—one EG M reviewer panned it while three praised it as a worthy sequel, and Sega Magazine crowned it a 94 % masterpiece for its gameplay variety.

Storyline

Earthworm Jim 2 follows hero Jim and his sidekick Snott as they chase Psy‑Crow to stop his marriage to Princess What’s‑Her‑Name. Their pursuit crosses the universe, crashing into the summer homes of villains like Major Mucus, Evil the Cat and Bob the Killer Goldfish. The game retains the original’s surreal humor while giving each stage a distinct style and its own objectives. New weapons such as the Three‑Finger Gun, Electro‑Gun, Homing Missiles, Barn Blaster and Bubble Gun join the classic Plasma Blaster.

Snott, now a permanent companion in Jim’s backpack, can cling to green surfaces, swing across gaps or act as a parachute. In “Villi People,” Jim disguises himself as a blind cave salamander navigating intestinal tunnels while dodging exploding sheep and answering absurd trivia. “Inflated Head” inflates Jim’s head like a balloon, forcing him to float upward and avoid sharp obstacles and attacks from Evil the Cat. The final stage, “See Jim Run Run Jim Run,” is a frantic race against Psy‑Crow through an obstacle course.

The game concludes with Jim rescuing Princess What’s‑Her‑Name, only to reveal that Jim, Psy‑Crow and the Princess are all secretly cows in disguise.
