Summary

Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes, known in Japan as Dragon Slayer: Eiyuu Densetsu, began life on the NEC PC‑88 in 1989 as the sixth entry of Falcom’s Dragon Slayer line and the inaugural title of the Legend of Heroes franchise. The game eventually migrated to the Sega Mega Drive in 1994, a Japan‑only release handled by Sega Falcom that earned a modest 23 out of 40 from Famitsu, reflecting its niche appeal among console RPG fans. A quirky footnote to its legacy is the 1992 Barcode Battler card set released by Epoch, which let players simulate battles with the game’s characters using a handheld scanner. Though the Mega Drive version never saw an official Western launch, its existence paved the way for later Dragon Slayer sequels—most notably Eiyuu Denshatzu II and Lord Monarch—both of which also received Mega Drive ports. Today, the title is remembered as a bridge between Falcom’s early computer adventures and the console RPG boom of the early ’90s.
