Summary

Dragon Slayer: The Legend of Heroes II, often shortened to Dragon Slayer II or Eiyuu Densetsu II, continues Falcom’s early‑90s tradition of classic, turn‑based RPGs. The sequel first appeared on the NEC PC‑8801, where its pixel‑art world and party‑driven combat set the tone for the subseries. In 1995 Sega handled a Mega Drive conversion that remained a Japan‑only release, preserving the original’s menu‑heavy interface while adapting the graphics for the 16‑bit console.

The game’s design leans heavily on the series’ hallmark of exploration and character progression, offering a roster of heroes whose abilities intertwine in strategic battles. Though the mechanics feel dated by modern standards, they capture the methodical pacing that defined many Falcom titles of the era.

Critical response was modest; Famitsu awarded the Mega Drive version a 20 out of 40, reflecting a lukewarm reception amid a crowded RPG market. Nonetheless, the title holds a niche appeal for collectors and retro enthusiasts who appreciate its place in the evolution of Japanese role‑playing games.

Storyline

Dragon Slayer – Eiyuu Densetsu II (often just called Dragon Slayer II) picks up twenty years after Prince Selios’s triumph over the demon god Agunija. The kingdom of Iseruhasa enjoys a rare stretch of peace, and Selios has settled down with his wife Dina, welcoming a son named Atlas. When Atlas turns fifteen, he and his mentor Lowel notice a fleet of strange, metallic beings in spacesuits hovering beyond the capital’s walls. The youths have never seen such technology and instantly assume the newcomers are monsters. Their encounter sets the stage for a new conflict that threatens the tranquil world their father fought so hard to protect.
