Summary

Decap Attack turns the platform genre upside down—literally. You control Chuck D. Head, a headless mummy whose torso bears a smiling face, as you trek across a skeletal island whose zones are named after body parts like Abdomainland and Armington. The Westernized graphics replace the original Japanese art with a cartoonish bone‑themed look.

Combat relies on extending Chuck’s face to jab foes or jumping on them, and you can tap the jump button to slow your fall. The skull power‑up gives a detachable head that boomerangs back, while potions grant invincibility or a screen‑clearing blast. Health is shown as hearts; you can start with up to three and find upgrades that raise the maximum to five, allowing ten hits per life.

Levels sprinkle odd mechanics—pole‑spring jumps, collapsing log bridges, and even riding a roaming eyeball—plus hidden items for Dr. Frank N. Stein that act as side quests. Each island segment ends with a boss, and the cartridge’s SRAM saves your high scores and unlocked upgrades for the next play session.

Storyline

In DecapAttack you play as Chuck D. Head, a headless mummy built by the mad Dr. Frank N. Stein and his assistant Igor. Stein sends Chuck on a bone‑chilling quest to stop Max D. Cap, a demon from the Underworld who leads an army of monsters intent on conquering the surface world. Max’s assault shatters the skeleton‑shaped cluster of islands into fragments, forcing Chuck to battle through the broken land and restore the islands to their original form. After re‑uniting the islands and defeating Max, Chuck sluggishly returns to Stein’s lab, where his creator rewards him by finally turning the mummy into a human. As the gamesdb quips, “if he spooks you… it’s all in your head.”
