Summary

Dashin' Desperadoes (called Rumble Kids on Japanese hardware) is a fast‑paced platform racer for the Sega Genesis that lets you dash through wildly themed stages. Two cowboy buddies, Will and Rick, become rivals the moment the blond‑haired Jenny rides into town, and the whole game is a split‑screen sprint to win her affection. You can tackle the race solo against the CPU or grab a friend for a two‑player showdown, each player controlling one of the rivals in a frantic side‑by‑side dash. The courses span deserts, icy waters, jungles and ancient ruins, and they’re littered with bombs, barbells, electric traps and icy patches that you can weaponise against your opponent. I love how the game feels like a cartoonish obstacle course, a quirky cousin to Data East’s later Neo‑Geo title Spinmaster, yet it stands out with its over‑the‑top race mechanics.

Storyline

In Dashin' Desperadoes players choose between two cowboys, the heroic Will or his rival Rick, and sprint through side‑scrolling levels filled with obstacles to reach the blond‑haired maiden Jenny. Will is the protagonist who chases Jenny at the end of each stage, while Rick, also blond‑haired, competes to get to her first. At the climax of every world, Rick kidnaps Jenny and tries to flee, forcing Will to fire a variety of weapons at Rick’s vehicle to stop the escape. In two‑player mode both cowboys race simultaneously for Jenny’s affection, and the player who arrives first is rewarded with a kiss from the maiden.
