Summary

Kid Chameleon is a fast‑paced Genesis platformer that lets you hop through a maze of over 100 levels and more than 1,800 screens. The core gimmick is the mask system: each mask transforms you into a different character with its own attack, hit‑point pool and special "Diamond Power" that costs collected diamonds. You can smash blocks as a brick‑bashing Berzerker, zip around as a buzzing Micromax, or glide through the air as the jet‑powered Skycutter, keeping the action fresh as you hunt down enemies and hidden routes.

Levels are peppered with flags that mark the exit, but hidden teleporters can whisk you to secret areas or entirely alternate paths, rewarding exploration. The game offers no password or save feature, so you must rely on skill and memory to survive long stretches without a checkpoint. This design choice adds tension but can feel unforgiving on the longer stages.

Critics praised Kid Chameleon’s vibrant graphics, catchy soundtrack and the variety afforded by its form‑changing mechanic, earning it a solid 68% aggregate score and a spot on several top‑Mega Drive lists. A brief comic strip appeared in Sonic the Comic in the early ’90s, cementing its quirky legacy among retro fans.

Storyline

In Kid Chameleon, you step into the shoes of the titular Kid Chameleon, a daring hero who must rescue his friends trapped inside a virtual‑reality video game gone rogue. The game's AI has turned hostile, forcing the Kid to battle through a series of bizarre levels. Each challenge ultimately guides him toward the lair of the mysterious Elsewhere Evilmeister, known as Heady Metal. There, the final showdown awaits as he confronts the mastermind behind the digital chaos.
