Summary

Captain America and the Avengers lands on the Sega Genesis as a four‑player side‑scrolling brawler that lets you swing, shoot, and even take to the skies. You can pick from Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye or Vision, each with a distinct “Avenger Attack” – a shield throw, arrow volley, or energy beam that fires at a 45‑degree angle when you jump. The stages are a mixed bag: classic street‑fighting corridors, a mid‑air shoot‑‘em‑up segment, an underwater crawl, and even a space showdown, each peppered with cameo help from the Wasp or a quick energy boost from Quicksilver. Bosses range from the Living Laser to the Mandarin, culminating in a showdown with the Red Skull. The Genesis version was co‑developed by ISCO and Opera House for North America, while Sega handled the European Mega Drive release, and the whole package resurfaced in the 2026 Marvel MaXimum Collection.

Storyline

In the Sega Genesis title *Captain America and the Avengers*, the heroic team faces a global threat orchestrated by the Red Skull. He has gathered an army of super‑villains with the explicit goal of conquering the world.

Players battle through waves of generic henchmen before confronting a roster of iconic foes: Klaw, the Living Laser, Whirlwind, a Sentinel, the Wizard, the Grim Reaper, the Mandarin, Juggernaut, Ultron, the Controller, and the assassin Crossbones. The final showdown pits the heroes against the Red Skull himself, bringing the villain’s world‑domination plot to a climax.
