Summary

Blue Almanac is a cult‑classic RPG that never saw an official release outside Japan, which makes it a hidden gem for retro collectors. The original 1991 Mega Drive title was developed by HOT‑B and published by Kodansha Research Institute, and although Kodansha had plans to bring it to the West under the name *Star Odyssey*, those plans vanished without explanation. The game’s obscurity turned into a treasure hunt when two separate prototypes surfaced—one uncovered by the archivist drx and another by Brandon Cobb, the head of Super Fighter Team. Cobb secured a license from HOT‑B’s successor, Starfish, to finish the English translation for the 20th anniversary, but Sega intervened, demanding the removal of its trademarks and copyrights. As a result, the translation remains an unlicensed fan effort, while the original Japanese version stays fully licensed, preserving its mysterious allure for enthusiasts worldwide.
