Summary

Bio-Hazard Battle drops you into the remnants of a planetary biowar, orbiting on the O.P. Odysseus platform over the scarred world of Avaron. The game runs as a 2D horizontally scrolling shooter where I can glide my ship in eight directions with the D‑Pad, fire a variety of weapons and even place a Power Star to block incoming projectiles. Four selectable craft each have their own speed and arsenal, and the pace is brutal – enemy waves scroll faster than many other Genesis shooters of the era. Lives start at three and extra ones appear as 1‑UP icons or at scoring milestones of 20 000, 50 000 and 100 000 points; a ship can also be crushed between a wall and the screen edge. The soundtrack leans on deep, bass‑heavy tracks that match the vivid, colorful backgrounds, while the final three stages only unlock on higher difficulty settings. In Japan the title appears as Crying: Aseimei Sensou.

Storyline

Bio‑Hazard Battle thrusts you into the aftermath of the first global biowar on the planet Avaron. A deadly retrovirus unleashed by the enemy turned the world into a breeding ground for hostile new lifeforms. The only hope lies in the orbiting platform O.P. Odysseus, which has kept a handful of humans in cryogenic suspension for centuries.

When the onboard computer awakens the crew, their task is to pilot one of four organic vessels—the Biowarriors—toward Avaron, scanning the planet’s surface for the least hostile zones identified by probe data. By confirming conditions and locating a safe region, the Biowarriors aim to establish a new colony and bring the survivors back to the mothership, ending the game with all four ships returning home.
