Summary

Batman Forever is a beat‑'em‑up that lets you swing into action as either Batman or Robin. Beyond the main stages, the game offers a “training mode” where you can pit the caped duo—or any of the movie’s villains—against a CPU opponent, a friend, or even two computer foes in a cooperative bout.

Each level lets you pick three standard gadgets for your hero, add two from a larger pool, and hunt down four hidden “blueprint” gadgets, all executed with move‑list key sequences that demand precise timing, especially when a gadget requires a step back before a punch or kick.

Visually, the title shines thanks to Acclaim’s motion‑capture work, delivering digitized sprites that look almost identical on Genesis, SNES and PC. Critics loved the crisp character models but complained that the backgrounds were sparse and the on‑screen action felt dull.

Reception was mixed: scores ranged from 2/5 to 90/100, with many reviewers calling out sluggish controls and boring gameplay. The game ultimately became a commercial flop, despite its impressive graphics.
