Summary

Arch Rivals – often billed as “A Basket Brawl” – drops you into a two‑on‑two full‑court showdown where a good punch is just as valuable as a good pass. The game encourages you to steal, tackle and even yank an opponent’s shorts, turning a standard basketball match into a street‑style brawl.

You can punch without penalty, slip on soda cans or candy wrappers that litter the floor, and pull off the infamous “flying leap” to knock the ball carrier down – a missed leap sends you sprawling across the court. The only official call comes from the referee for a shot‑clock violation, and if the score is tied after four four‑minute quarters, sudden‑death overtime decides the winner, one minute at a time.

Eight quirky characters populate twelve selectable teams, and arcade operators could even rename them via the “Hometown Heroes” feature. Home console ports suffered: the NES hides a secret three‑point dunk glitch, while the Genesis version famously makes almost every shot count as a basket, and a planned Master System version never saw the light of day.
