Summary

Animaniacs on the Sega Genesis let you dash through a quirky movie‑set world as Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. I love swapping between the trio: Yakko whirs his paddleball to stun foes and push crates, Wakko smacks switches with his mallet, and Dot charms obstacles with blowing kisses.

The four main stages can be tackled in any order, each ending with a themed boss that guards a piece of film memorabilia. Collect enough stars or golden faces and you earn extra lives, while the ever‑smiling faces in the corner warn when health wanes. After the five pieces are gathered, a hidden level opens before the showdown with Pinky and the Brain.

Critics noted the cartoon‑rich graphics and smart level design, with GamePro saying it hits the TV show’s pre‑teen crowd while Next Generation gave it an okay three‑star fun rating. The music is sparse and there’s no voice work, but the spirit of the series shines through.

Storyline

In the Genesis version of Animaniacs, Yakko, Wakko and Dot decide to open a hip‑pop culture shop to get closer to their favorite movie stars. To stock it, they dash across the Warner Bros. studio lot, hopping from one iconic movie set to another in search of collectible memorabilia. After gathering the treasures, the scheming duo Pinky and the Brain swoop in, trying to snatch the items for their own world‑domination scheme, forcing the siblings to protect their loot and keep the shop alive.
