Summary

Amy Rose in Sonic the Hedgehog, often called Amy in Sonic 1, is a fan‑made ROM hack that flips the original Sega Genesis classic on its head by putting Amy Rose in Sonic’s shoes. The project swaps the blue hedgehog for Amy using spritework lifted from Sonic CD, preserving her early, pre‑Adventure look while keeping the familiar level layouts intact. New mechanics give Amy a hammer‑based attack and altered movement options, letting players experience the familiar stages with a fresh, character‑centric twist. The hack was spearheaded by E‑122‑Psi, with programming help from community members like MarkeyJester, Aquaslash, Selbi and Hayate, turning a solo idea into a polished fan title. Its success sparked a mini‑series of follow‑ups—Amy Rose in Sonic 2 and Amy Rose in Sonic 3—cementing the hack as a beloved niche in the retro‑gaming scene.
