Summary

I first ran into *Alien Soldier* as a hidden gem on the Sega Channel, the only way North American gamers could legally download the title back in the mid‑90s. Treasure built the game deliberately for the “hardcore” Mega Drive crowd, packing it with relentless boss fights that dwarf the brief, enemy‑filled corridors in‑between. There are only 25 stages, but you’ll encounter 26 different bosses, each demanding precise weapon‑swapping and flawless timing.

You command Epsilon‑Eagle, who can double‑jump, hover, dash, and unleash the “Phoenix Force” when at full health – a screen‑clearing strike that makes every moment feel rewarding. Six weapon types are available, though only four can be armed at once, and each carries its own ammo bar that refills slowly, so managing firepower is a constant puzzle. The game offers a “supereasy” mode with passwords and unlimited continues, while “superhard” strips those safety nets away, turning every mistake into a harsh lesson.

Visually sharp and backed by a pounding soundtrack, the title never got a mass retail push, but it has earned a lasting reputation among fans of *Gunstar Heroes* who crave punishing, fast‑paced run‑and‑gun action.

Storyline

Alien Soldier opens with a scrolling intro that sets the stage on the planet Sierra, now under siege by the terrorist group Scarlet. Scarlet is led by the vicious creature Xi‑Tiger, who plots the extinction of humanity. The only hope is the A‑Human warrior Epsilon‑Eagle, a genetically engineered super‑soldier created by the A‑Earth scientists in 2015.
During a daring assault on Scarlet’s headquarters, an assassination attempt on Epsilon‑Eagle triggers a massive clash that tears the space‑time continuum, leaving the hero gravely wounded and cast adrift in the rift. With Epsilon presumed lost, Xi‑Tiger seizes control of Scarlet and pushes the organization into even greater brutality.
Xi‑Tiger later storms an A‑Human research lab where children with special abilities are held, taking a young girl hostage to force Epsilon’s reveal. A captive boy, infused with Epsilon’s parasitic essence, transforms into a second incarnation of the hero, prompting Xi‑Tiger to murder the girl and flee. Now split into a good and an evil Epsilon, both versions pursue Xi‑Tiger across the shattered continuum.
