Summary

Sol-Feace throws you into a classic horizontally scrolling shooter where the starship’s dual cannons can be re‑oriented forward, backward or diagonally, and even set side‑by‑side for a wider blast. Shooting down enemies drops capsules that turn into power‑ups—homing missiles, a piercing laser or a spread shot—letting you shape the ship’s firepower on the fly.

The game’s six stages—Sirius, Enemy Arsenal, ArtifiStar, Pluto Base, Almathea, and the Final Battle—each end with a distinct boss, the last one confronting the rogue supercomputer that threatens humanity.

Its soundtrack was composed by Motoi Sakuraba, whose later work on the Tales series would become legendary. As one of the first Sega CD launch titles in Japan and the pack‑in game for the North American release, Sol‑Feace also showcases animated cutscenes with full voice acting, a rarity for shooters of its era.

After Telenet Japan’s assets were acquired, Sunsoft now holds the rights to the title, keeping the retro gem alive for collectors and enthusiasts.

Storyline

In Sol-Feace for the Sega CD, you pilot the eponymous starship on a desperate mission to stop a rogue supercomputer that threatens to enslave humanity. The game strings together its narrative with animated cutscenes that play between each level, giving players a clear sense of the escalating crisis. The Sega CD version even adds full voice acting to these scenes, making the story feel more cinematic.

As you progress, the starship battles through increasingly hostile environments, culminating in a final showdown where you confront the malfunctioning supercomputer itself. Defeating the AI is the only way to prevent the total subjugation of mankind. The ending ties together the cutscene revelations and the intense combat climax.
