Summary
Corpse Killer is an FMV‑driven rail shooter that drops you—a special‑forces operative—onto a remote tropical island swarming with undead. From a first‑person view, zombie silhouettes pop up against live‑action video and you blast them with a light‑gun cursor, while occasional power‑ups and health kits keep you in the fight; the Saturn port added extra footage and new upgrades.
The film segments were shot on location in the Caribbean, chiefly in Puerto Rico, under director John Lafia. Actors wore latex masks, and the cast features Vincent Schiavelli as the evil Dr. Hellman among other B‑movie regulars, giving the game its campy, grain‑y charm that reviewers both mocked and celebrated.
Although reception was mixed—criticisms focused on repetitive gameplay and low video fidelity—the game's cheeky cut‑scenes earned a cult following. In 2019 it was remastered as a 25th‑Anniversary Edition for Steam and PS 4, bundled with behind‑the‑scenes footage and original scripts, cementing its oddball legacy.
Storyline
Corpse Killer drops you into a bizarre tropical nightmare. You play as an unnamed U.S. Marine lieutenant who is airdropped onto a remote island on a top‑secret mission to stop the mad Dr. Hellman, who intends to unleash an army of zombies on the world.
Early on the marine is bitten by a zombie, but he also crosses paths with a striking female reporter and a laid‑back Rastafarian driver who help him navigate the island’s hazards. Hellman has already captured four of the lieutenant’s squadmates and turned them into the undead. To rescue them, the marine storms Hellman’s hidden compound and uses specially‑coated bullets—infused with Datura extract—to revert the fresh zombies back into human allies.
