Summary

The Amazing Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin on Sega CD turns the classic side‑scrolling platformer into a faster, more cinematic experience. Spider‑Man darts through the city using his signature web‑swing, wall‑crawling and ceiling‑crawling abilities, while hand‑to‑hand punches blend with stunning web shots, web shields and combo‑friendly web‑strike sequences. The CD version expands the map so you can pick the next level or boss from a city‑wide screen, letting you wander to spots like a TV station before confronting the Kingpin.

Two brand‑new stages—Mysterio’s Funhouse and a Vulture showdown in the subway—join the roster, and before the final showdown you must take down Bullseye and Typhoid Mary. Combat is richer, with extra moves and the freedom to chain fists and webs together. The game also drops the photo‑selling side‑quest and the apartment healing spot, replacing them with a password‑based save system.

Multimedia gets a boost: animated cutscenes with voice acting, an original soundtrack by Spencer Nilsen and rock outfit Mr. Big, and the chance to collect digital reproductions of 21 classic Spider‑Man comic issues. Three difficulty settings—easy, normal and nightmare—capped the challenge, and a contest invited players to finish the ultra‑hard mode while gathering every comic cover.

Storyline

In The Amazing Spider‑Man vs. The Kingpin on Sega CD, the Kingpin plants a nuclear bomb in New York City and pins the crime on Spider‑Man. With a 24‑hour timer ticking down, the city’s citizens turn against him, hunting his radioactive spider blood. To clear his name, Spider‑Man must hunt down the scattered keys hidden by eight of his classic foes – Doctor Octopus, Sandman, the Lizard, Hobgoblin, Vulture, Mysterio, Electro and Venom. Each confrontation takes place across distinct levels as he battles the villains to retrieve their key.
Mid‑game, Venom kidnaps Spider‑Man’s wife, Mary Jane, dropping her into a perilous situation that culminates in an acid pit set by the Kingpin. Peter manages to rescue her, secure all the keys and ultimately defuse the bomb, saving New York and restoring his reputation.
