Summary

Virtua Racing Deluxe launched with the Sega 32X in North America in late 1994 and reached PAL territories a year later, instantly becoming a showcase for the add‑on’s power. The team, many of whom had built the original Mega Drive port, pushed the visuals much closer to the arcade original, boosting resolution, color depth, framerate and draw distance beyond what the SVP chip could manage. Two brand‑new cars – the Stock and Prototype – and fresh circuits called Highland and Sand Park give the game a tangible sense of expansion, while Naofumi Hataya added several rearranged tracks and new music cues that sometimes replace the classic themes. Reviewers took note: GamePro praised the extra content, sharper graphics, tight controls and the fact that on‑the‑fly view switching still works in split‑screen, and Next Generation called it a near‑perfect conversion that remains fun to play. Oddly, the title won’t run on Majesco’s 1998 Genesis 3 re‑release or any Genesis equipped with a 32X, a quirk that only adds to its collector’s mystique.
