Summary
BC Racers feels like a stone‑age Grand Prix, blending a racing simulation with a wildly prehistoric aesthetic. Co‑designed by Toby Gard—who would later help birth Lara Croft—the game slots into the Chuck Rock universe without shouting about it. The tracks span deserts, volcanoes, jungles and more, each demanding four laps and offering terrain‑specific hazards.
Four difficulty levels (Easy to Rockhard) unlock eight distinct circuits per setting, giving a total of 32 tracks. A simple turbo can be fired every few seconds, while riders can punch, kick or shove opponents; a battered bike will crash, handing extra points to the victor. Some versions even support split‑screen two‑player races.
On the 32X, the visuals push the hardware: in‑game sprites use 256 colors and static screens boast full 24‑bit depth, making the stone‑age look surprisingly crisp. Reviewers praised the sharper graphics over the Sega CD version, though they noted noticeable slowdown, especially in two‑player mode. The roster includes Chuck Rock, his junior, and tongue‑in‑cheek nods like Brick Jagger, Sid Viscous and Jimi Handtrix.
Storyline
BC Racers pits prehistoric daredevils against each other in a wild, rock‑powered sidecar showdown. Millionaire playboy caveman Millstone Rockafella has organized the BC bike race, promising the Ultimate Boulderdash Bike to the victor. Six rival groups, each with a driver and a side‑car gunner, race from every corner of the ancient world. Among them, the cool‑as‑ice Cliff Ace, who has dreamed of the Boulderdash bike since he was knee‑high, enters the competition with his cave‑babe partner Roxy at his side. The race is a chaotic mix of speed, weapons, and prehistoric flair.
