Summary

TwinBee RPG flips the beloved TwinBee franchise from colorful shooters into a fully voiced, 3D role‑playing adventure. I was surprised to find myself navigating Donburi Island as a placeholder pilot after the series’ ace, Light, vanished, which makes the story feel more like a light‑novel than a traditional arcade quest.

Combat rewards are unusually static – you always get 160 points for a grunt and 600 for a boss – but the party member landing the final blow nabbed a bonus. Levelling never feels grindy; each character needs roughly 5,000 points, and weaker party members actually earn a bigger share. Money is scarce, so the real economy lives in selling fruits you pick up – from satsumas up to peaches.

A standout twist is the dating‑sim layer reminiscent of Tokimeki Memorial. Your interactions with various girls steer the ending, turning the usual save‑and‑play loop into a personality‑driven mystery. Despite its niche, Japan‑only launch, the game bundled the full TwinBee Paradise cast and even an ending theme by Mariko Kouda, cementing it as a cult favorite and the last main‑line entry in the series.

Storyline

In TwinBee RPG, you play as an unnamed protagonist whose name you choose at the start. Princess Melora summons you from the real world to rescue the TwinBee universe. Your character wears a cap, knee‑long trousers, a vest, and sports an androgynous face with shoulder‑length hair. The game lets you shape the hero’s personality—ranging from serious to rebellious or even perverted—based on your actions. Although the developers kept age and gender ambiguous, supporting characters like Madoka and Vieren consistently use male pronouns when addressing you.
