Summary

The Lost World: Jurassic Park drops you into a side‑scroll adventure where you swap between a pack of tiny compsognaths, a human hunter, a sleek raptor, an unstoppable T‑rex and scientist Sarah Harding. Each character follows a dedicated route—dinosaurs snack on food to stay strong while the humans scavenge gas cans, guns and rocket launchers—so the gameplay feels like a split‑screen movie stunt show.

Collecting DNA symbols across the levels fills a gallery of storyboard art, and nabbing every bonus unlocks a hidden clip of Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm giving a tongue‑in‑cheek congratulations. DreamWorks’ Morf‑X engine powers the visuals; although capable of full 3D, the team intentionally kept it 2‑D for tight control and clearer camera angles. The soundtrack, composed by Michael Giacchino and recorded with a 40‑piece orchestra, earned particular praise.

The 1998 Greatest Hits special edition added checkpoints, stronger characters, level‑select codes and an early T‑rex bonus stage, but critics remained divided, noting the impressive dinosaur animation and audio—over 1,400 sound effects for 23 creatures—against clunky controls.

Storyline

The Lost World: Jurassic Park, often just called Lost World, drops the movie’s narrative and plants you on “Site B,” the Isla Sorna breeding grounds InGen built. Each playable character faces a unique survival scramble amid more than twenty dinosaur species, while chaos on the island constantly escalates.

Dinosaur chapters let you roam diverse island zones, fending off rival predators and InGen hunters. Human‑hunter missions shift to more built‑up settings—an underground complex, a geothermal centre, and an InGen laboratory—where the objective is to wipe out any dinosaur threat. The story wraps up with Sarah Harding making a desperate escape aboard a cargo ship.

If you gather every DNA bonus, a secret ending unlocks: Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm appears on screen to congratulate the player for surviving the Lost World.
