Summary
Tekken 2 on PlayStation expands the arcade original with a sizable roster and several new modes that quickly became series staples. The console adds eight newcomers—including Jun Kazama and Lei Wulong—to bring the total to 25 fighters, but only ten are available from the start, the rest unlocking after meeting specific conditions. Survival, Team Battle, Time Attack and Practice each give a fresh way to hone combos or test endurance, while unique CGI endings and rearranged tracks let every character feel personalized. The fighting mechanics got deeper tweaks: some characters gain attack reversals, Kazuya and Heihachi obtain a sidestep, and tackles now deal damage over longer runs, all supported by smoother back‑throws and chain‑throws. Those technical upgrades, plus 800‑polygon models built in a week‑long sprint, helped the PlayStation version sell over 5.7 million copies and earn scores in the low 90s, cementing its place as one classic beat‑‘em‑up of the era.
Storyline
Two years after Kazuya Mishima’s victory in the first King of Iron Fist Tournament, he has taken over the Mishima Zaibatsu and announces a second showdown. Rumors swirl that he has struck a pact with the Devil, and the corporation is now involved in illegal arms, smuggling, and genetic experiments.
Animal‑rights activist Jun Kazama is dispatched to stop Kazuya’s experiments, but a mysterious force draws her into the tournament and she drops out to try freeing him from the Devil within. Meanwhile Heihachi Mishima, who was thrown off a cliff, claws his way back up, trains, and enters the competition seeking revenge. He defeats Lee Chaolan and many others, loses to Paul Phoenix in the semis, but is reinstated after Paul’s accident.
In the final match Heihachi overpowers Kazuya, hurls his unconscious body into an erupting volcano and escapes by helicopter, reclaiming the Zaibatsu. Jun’s interference weakens the Devil, reveals an Angel side, and leaves the story with her pregnant and abandoning the fight.
