Summary
Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles (often just called Jedi Power Battles) drops you into a ten‑level side‑scrolling romp that feels like a mash‑up of classic platformers and beat‑‘em‑ups. I pick one of the five prequel‑era Jedi—Obi‑Wan, Qui‑Gon, Mace, Adi or Plo—and charge through jumps, lightsaber lock‑ons and Force attacks, from the Trade Federation ship right up to the final duel with Darth Maul on Naboo.
The game shines in couch co‑op, letting a friend jump in on the same action, while hidden unlocks reward you with extra heroes like Queen Amidala, Captain Panaka, and even a Tusken Raider in the 2025 remaster. That update also adds palette‑swap lightsabers for canon colors and a handful of bonus characters, making the nostalgic beat‑‘em‑up feel fresh for a modern audience.
Storyline
Star Wars: Episode I – Jedi Power Battles (often called Jedi Power Battles) loosely follows the plot of The Phantom Menace. Two Jedi are dispatched to negotiate with the Trade Federation on Naboo, only to be ambushed and forced to battle endless waves of battle‑droids aboard the Federation ship. They escape to Naboo’s surface, cut through the swamps, and fight their way into the capital city, Theed, before fleeing with Queen Amidala aboard her star‑ship.
The party lands on Tatooine to scavenge ship parts, battling Tusken Raiders and a dark‑robed assassin, then heads to Coruscant where criminals attack the queen’s convoy. Returning to Naboo, the Jedi ally with the Gungans, storm Gungan ruins, commandeer droid STAPs, and charge the palace. Using force‑enhanced jumps they scale the palace walls, confront Darth Maul in the generator complex, defeat him, and celebrate the liberation of Theed with Queen Amidala and Boss Nass, while Yoda warns that the war is far from over.
