Summary
Scooby‑Doo and the Cyber Chase drags the Mystery Inc. crew into a neon‑lit cyber‑world where you alternate control of Shaggy and Scooby as they hunt the titular Phantom Virus. The game strings together seven distinct zones—classic Japan, Ancient Rome, the Arctic Circle, a Prehistoric Jungle, a sprawling city, Egypt and an amusement park—each split into two regular levels and a themed boss battle. Players trade samurai steel, lion‑laden gladiators, a snowball‑riding polar bear, a snarling T‑rex, a retro robot from Funland, mummified guardians and, finally, the Phantom Virus itself. Scooby snacks and other pickups pepper the 3‑D corridors, while voice‑overs and quirky sound effects keep the atmosphere light. Critics gave it a modest 62 % aggregate, yet UK sales topped 300,000 units, earning ELSPA Platinum status and later a Greatest Hits badge. Retro Gamer even crowned it one of the best Scooby‑Doo titles, despite its obvious Crash‑Bandicoot vibes.
Storyline
In Scooby‑Doo and the Cyber Chase, the Mystery Machine crew is sucked into a digital world where they must hunt down the nefarious Phantom Virus. The villain spreads corrupted code across the cyber‑realm, forcing Scooby and Shaggy to sprint through a series of platforming levels to stop him.
Along the way they gather Scooby Snacks for points, Scooby‑Shaggy coins that grant extra lives, and dog‑tag checkpoints that let them resume after a fall. Hamburgers refill health and energy, while pies serve as temporary weapons against rogue programs.
Fred, Daphne and Velma stay in contact via Velma’s handheld communicator, offering tips and special moves to help the duo dodge obstacles and solve puzzles.
