Summary
ReBoot drops you into a 3D, over‑the‑shoulder shooter that pulls directly from the CG TV series. I guide Bob through 19 interlocking levels, using his starter pistol and a handful of quirky “keytools” that can steal health, hijack Megabyte’s turrets or freeze foes. Each arena hides power‑ups and the occasional hidden item, and after every stage a short cutscene plays—one version for a speedy finish, a poorer one if you run out of time. The game even includes an original, pre‑quel episode created especially for the console, framing the whole adventure as episode 0 of the series.
EA Canada built the title next door to Mainframe Studios, spending about two years on design after a 1995 deal. Critics were split: the graphics and faithful world‑building earned praise, while the awkward Zipboard movement and clunky camera drew criticism, especially with the digital pad. Reviewers noted that the analog stick smooths the controls, but the lack of selectable difficulty and repetitive objectives left the experience feeling short‑lived.
Storyline
ReBoot on the PlayStation drops you into the chaotic world of Mainframe, where the heroic Guardian Bob must thwart a looming invasion. The villain Megabyte has discovered a way to weaponize energy tears, using Hexadecimal’s mirrors to punch a path straight to the core of the principal office.
Bob’s mission is to seal those tears while blasting through six distinct sectors—Baudway, Cit E (aka Wall Street), Beverly Hills, Kits, Floating Point Park, and G‑Prime—plus the mysterious island of Lost Angles. Each area is riddled with deadly adversaries that must be destroyed before the tear‑based power can be contained.
