Summary
Psychic Force drops you into a floating arena bounded by an invisible force field. You and your opponent glide in three‑dimensional space, yet every attack plays out on a 2‑D plane, letting you bounce enemies off the walls for extra damage. The real kicker is the Psycho Gauge underneath the health bar: it fuels all special moves, from wide‑ranged projectiles to barrier guards that sacrifice gauge for a temporary shield. Running out forces you into a steady stream of weak shots, so timing a fast charge can swing the tide. The PlayStation conversion kept the original Japanese voices and J‑pop intro, slipping subtitles in instead of full localization—an odd charm for those willing to listen through the translation. Visually, the game leans on colorful anime‑style backdrops and flashy energy attacks, which reviewers praised even as they criticized the heavy reliance on projectile spam and repetitive combos. For fans craving a side‑quest, the oddball puzzle spin‑off, Psychic Force: Puzzle Taisen, landed on PS in ’97 only in Japan.
Storyline
In the year 2010, the world of Psychic Force is populated by individuals called Psychiccers, each wielding an elemental power such as fire, ice, wind, electricity, gravity, light, or time. These gifted people are generally ostracized because their abilities often lead to violent clashes. A shadowy organization named NOA emerges, promising Psychiccers a safe haven while secretly plotting to build a utopia ruled exclusively by them. NOA is led by the young British Psychiccer Keith Evans, who is prepared to crush anyone who opposes his vision. Opposing him is the independent group Anti‑NOA, whose member Burn Griffiths, an American Psychiccer, seeks to stop his former friend and prevent the creation of a Psychiccer‑only world.
