Summary

Muppet Monster Adventure is one of those rare PlayStation platformers that packs a whimsical Muppet vibe into the 3D collect‑athon formula popular around 2000. I was drawn to its Spyro‑ and Crash‑like level design, and the way Robin the Frog swaps into Noseferatu’s gliding amulet, the Werebear’s climber, the Muck Monster’s diver, and the block‑pushing Ker‑monster abilities feels oddly satisfying. Each stage demands you harvest ‘evil energy’ to unlock pathways, while bosses hinge on gathering Muppet Tokens rather than brute force. Critics praised the game’s polish and charm, though they disagreed on the soundtrack—some called it memorable, others forgettable. Despite the mixed reception, the title holds a goofy polish that makes it a hidden gem for retro platform fans.

Storyline

In the PlayStation classic Muppet Monster Adventure, Robin the Frog’s vacation quickly turns into a nightmare when he and the Muppets arrive at a crumbling castle instead of a sunny beach. Uncle Kermit reminds him they’re there for Dr. Bunsen Honeydew’s uncle’s will, and a mysterious figure opens the castle door, sending Robin into a faint. He awakens in an underground lab where Bunsen hands him a Power Glove that siphons evil from monsters, warning it only works on amphibian anatomy.

Armed with the glove, Robin battles through Castle von Honeydew, rescuing Gonzo from his vampire form "Noseferatu" before venturing into the village’s Deadlands. He defeats the pirate‑skeleton "Wocka Wocka Wearbear" and restores Fozzie Bear. The journey continues through Neverleave Forest, where he confronts a transformed Uncle Kermit as "Ker‑Monster," then into the Village of the Darned to slay the Muck Monster and free Clifford.

In Madness Marsh he vanquishes piranhas, crocs, and the ghoul‑friend of Ker‑Monster, turning her back into Miss Piggy. Scaling the Whatsapatterhorn, he finally faces Baron Petri von Honeydew, using the Baron's own projectiles against him before collapsing.

Robin awakens again in the castle hallway, surrounded by unchanged Muppets. As they ascend the stairs, a portrait of the late Baron whispers “shush” and the Power Glove reappears on Robin’s hand, hinting the adventure was more than just a dream.
