Summary
Moon: Remix RPG Adventure feels like a love‑letter to gamers who grew up with classic JRPGs, but it flips every expectation on its head. Instead of battling monsters, you spend your time chasing the souls of animals killed by the over‑confident Hero, hugging them back to life to raise Boy’s Love Level. The world runs on a real‑time weekly calendar—Solarday through Echoday—so each resident, from florists to castle guards, follows a predictable schedule that you must learn to time‑locked quests correctly.
Music is surprisingly central: you can collect up to 36 “MoonDiscs” and build a personal soundtrack that plays wherever you roam. The soundtrack itself was crafted by a collective of over thirty indie Japanese musicians, giving the game a wild blend of pop, traditional koto and everything in‑between.
Developed by former Square staff under Love‑de‑Lic, the title debuted on PlayStation in 1997 and finally arrived in English on Steam after years of cult hype. Critics lauded its sharp parody of RPG tropes, and the “anti‑RPG” label stuck, turning what could be a usual fantasy trek into a heartfelt quest for affection.
Storyline
Moon: Remix RPG Adventure begins with a young boy playing a new RPG called Moon (also known as Fake Moon) on his Gamestation. One night the TV turns on itself, sucking him into the game’s world of Love‑de‑Gard, a parody of 16‑bit JRPGs. There he discovers that the “hero” he has been controlling is a blood‑thirsty villain who murders innocent animals for experience points. The boy’s growth comes from rescuing the animals’ souls and gathering love, which restores the lost moonlight. His quest is to undo the hero’s damage, free the captured souls, and stop the murderous hero before the moon is lost forever.
