Summary
Krazy Ivan drops you into a 2018 Earth besieged by expanding energy shields, forcing a single solution: pilot a 40‑foot‑tall combat robot. You step into the boots of Ivan Popovich, a Russian soldier who can only defeat the robotic alien threat from inside the giant suit. The game splits the fight across five worldwide zones—Russia, Saudi Arabia, France, the United States, and Japan—letting you spend earned power‑core experience on upgrades and weapon swaps after each stage.
What still strikes me is the old‑school FMV flair: the intro and cut‑scenes were filmed on blue‑screen with live actors, backed by a gritty soundtrack from Mike Clarke and Tim Wright. The PlayStation port even supported a Link Cable for multiplayer duels, and reviewers at the time praised its detailed graphics and tight controls, while noting the lack of jumping, short length and replayability issues. The Saturn version was shown in 1996 but never reached North American shelves.
Storyline
In Krazy Ivan, the player steps into the boots of Ivan Popovich, a Russian soldier who pilots a massive mechanized suit to fend off an invasion of robotic alien forces. The campaign unfolds across five distinct zones—Russia, Saudi Arabia, France, the United States, and Japan—each linked by FMV cutscenes that push the story forward.
These cinematic interludes reveal the escalating threat and the suit’s evolving capabilities, while each locale presents unique terrain and enemy designs, keeping the action fresh from icy steppes to desert dunes, European streets, American cities, and futuristic Japanese landscapes.
