Summary

Jinx is a bright, colorful 3D platformer that feels like a PlayStation-era cousin of Spyro the Dragon. Players hop through six distinct realms—Mamoo City’s candy‑hued castle, the rainy Zonimama rainforests, the sand‑swept Pyramidicia, the underwater Aquaquatica, the neon‑glow Spookyland, and the pirate‑laden Buccaneria—each split into three quirky levels. Though it arrived in 2003 as Sony’s last non‑sports title for the original PlayStation, it was announced the year before and sticks to simple, child‑friendly gameplay without extra bells. Critics noted its neat, no‑frills design, awarding it a modest 4/10 from Eurogamer and advising more seasoned players to look elsewhere for richer platforming experiences.

Storyline

Jinx, the titular character of the PlayStation title Jinx, is a failed magician and the son of an incredibly powerful wizard who somehow ends up serving as the court jester for King Mamooset XIV. One morning Jinx awakens to discover his world has literally gone mad. A band of pirates, led by the evil Captain Gripply, has launched an attack on the realm of Ploog. Using a chaotic magical spell, the pirates have turned the inhabitants of Jinx’s world against one another, sparking widespread disorder. The game follows Jinx as he navigates this twisted landscape, trying to undo the spell and restore sanity to his kingdom.
