Summary
Herc's Adventures lets you swing between Herc, the muscle‑bound Hercules, Atlanta the fleet-footed Atalanta, or the quick‑thinking Jason, each hauling a quirky mix of ancient‑myth weaponry. I love how you can crank out pepper breath to swat angry bees or unleash lightning to blast mythic foes, while items like Circe’s pig‑potion turn you into a squealing snout for tight squeezes.
The world feels endless – a single, load‑free map that loops through 40 goofy, mythology‑spun levels, punctuated by brutal trips down to Hades’ underworld every time you bite the dust. Each death sends you deeper into the gloom, making the escape progressively tougher, and five mishaps spell a hard stop. Health tops up with greasy gyros, while a separate stamina bar drains as you sprint or hoist loot, refillable at the ever‑patient strength trainer.
Even after its ’97 debut, the PlayStation version found new life on PSN in 2014, earning a decent 7.8/10 from GameSpot and praise for its goofy control feel, sound, and pure fun factor – proof that a goofy Greek romp still charms retro hunters today.
Storyline
Herc's Adventures (often just called Herc's Adventures) drops players into a mythic Greek world where Hades, lord of the underworld, has abducted Persephone, the goddess of spring. Her disappearance plunges the land into famine and death. The player can choose one of three ancient heroes—Herc (Hercules), Atalanta, or Jason—to embark on a quest to defeat Hades and restore balance.
The game even allows a single hero to face the armies of the dead, or two heroes to team up for a tougher challenge. Their ultimate goal is to rescue Persephone and bring the seasons back.
