Summary
Ghost in the Shell on PlayStation drops you into a cyber‑punk world where you pilot a spider‑shaped Fuchikoma. This mecha sticks to walls, hangs from ceilings and darts across urban rooftops, letting you toggle between first‑ and third‑person views while blasting foes with twin machine guns and charged guided missiles that never run out. Each of the twelve missions packs its own twist—storming a warehouse complex, defusing explosive‑laden barrels, chasing a boat along a highway, hunting a cloaked boss in hide‑and‑seek, and finally a free‑fall showdown down a skyscraper, all under occasional time limits.
A dedicated training mode walks you through targeting, navigation and an AI‑vs‑AI duel that hones your control of the Fuchikoma’s six‑directional thrust. Unlockable cutscenes—drawn by Masamune Shirow’s original manga creator and animated by Production I.G—merge traditional cell art with 3D‑rendered backdrops, all polished in Adobe Photoshop. The English voice cast matches the iconic film, keeping characters like Motoko Kusanagi, Batou and Togusa unmistakably familiar even though you never actually play Motoko yourself, preserving the game’s mature tone.
Storyline
Ghost in the Shell follows a rookie of Public Security Section 9 as he confronts the Human Liberation Front. Mission briefings and animated cut‑scenes let the player control the nameless recruit while Major Kusanagi, Aramaki, Batou, Togusa, Ishikawa and Saito support. The FLF claims the Megatech Body Corp building bombing, prompting Section 9 to trace a trap in the bay.
Chief Aramaki identifies the FLF leader as mercenary Zebra 27, and Ishikawa learns the Energy Ministry wants Zebra‑related files. The rookie’s skills are tested in chases and an ambush, leading the team to Aeropolis II, where the terrorists plan to use a nuclear reactor. During the raid the reactor overloads; Kusanagi removes a barrier while the squad searches the control room.
Batou and Togusa are blocked from the tower’s summit, so the rookie climbs alone and defeats Zebra in a free‑fall battle. It’s revealed Energy Ministry official Sawamura bribed Megatech to hide a reactor defect, while Zebra tried to seize the reactor for extortion. Kusanagi praises the rookie’s cleverness but notes the team’s over‑reliance on the Fuchikoma.
