Summary

Gex: Enter the Gecko takes the wise‑cracking gecko into a fully 3D playground where every level feels like a busted TV set waiting to be repaired. I’m constantly swapping tail whips, tail bounces and a flying karate kick while scaling walls and ceilings, and the colored flies I snag double as health, extra lives, temporary upgrades, oxygen for the occasional space stretch, or even checkpoints. The hub world expands as I collect red, silver and gold remotes, unlocking new TV‑themed stages and a quirky special ending.

Crystal Dynamics built the game to echo the freedom of Super Mario 64, giving Gex a full skeletal rig and sprinkling humor straight out of The Simpsons. Critics praised its level design, graphics and replay value, even though the camera and some jokes divided opinion, and it earned finalist spots for both Console Game of the Year and Console Action Game of the Year at the AIAS Interactive Achievement Awards.

Storyline

After defeating Rez in the Media Dimension, Gex retires from the spotlight and lives in solitude. Two years later, while watching TV, the screen goes blank and Rez’s image flashes, prompting government agents to contact Gex and warn that Rez has returned. Though he initially refuses, Gex is abducted, interrogated, and eventually agrees to help in exchange for cash and gadgets.

Gex meets the female operative Agent Xtra, who wishes him luck, and dives back into the Media Dimension’s endless television channels. He finally confronts Rez, dropping a massive television set onto the villain and weakening him. Rez then claims through a TV screen that he is Gex’s father, but Gex simply turns the TV off.

The story closes with Gex sharing a hotel room with Nikki, the heroine from the Pandemonium series, hinting at a new partnership beyond the Media Dimension.
