Summary

Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko expands the series’ tongue‑in‑cheek TV‑parody world with a hub called Mission Control, overseen by the sarcastic butler Alfred the Turtle. Collecting TV remotes opens new “channels” while the only collectible you need are bugs—up to 100 per stage—making the hunt more tense than previous titles. Power‑ups grant fire or ice breaths, and the game throws in quirky vehicles like a tank, a camel, and a snowboard for a brief change of pace.

The US version lets you hear Gex’s wisecracks through comedian Dana Gould, while European releases feature Danny John‑Jules. Actress‑turned‑playboy model Marliece Andrada appears as Agent Xtra in short FMV clips, adding live‑action flavor rare on the PlayStation. Completing all 50 remotes unlocks a hidden ending that showcases the development team, a treat only available in the North American build.

Tech‑wise, Crystal Dynamics pushed the PlayStation’s limits: larger levels, richer textures with environment mapping, and a streamlined single‑camera system that finally behaves. Bonus stages also let you hop into alternate characters Rex, Cuz, or even Alfred for extra variety.

Storyline

The story of Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko sends the wise‑cracking gecko back into the Media Dimension to rescue his partner, Agent Xtra, who has been kidnapped by the evil Rez. While watching the news, Gex learns that Xtra, now head of the TV Terrorist Defense Unit, vanished after Rez resurfaced and threatened Gex’s secret island lair.

New allies appear: Alfred the Tortoise, Gex’s butler who runs the Mission Control headquarters, Rex the red dinosaur unfrozen from an icy broadcast, and Cuz, Gex’s cousin freed from gangsters on the Gangster TV channel. Alfred offers tips throughout the levels, and the friends join Gex as he hops across a parade of TV channels.

Together they track Rez, free his prisoners, and confront him in a final showdown that shatters the villain once and for all. In the PlayStation ending, Xtra recounts her ordeal, Alfred warns of a new emergency, but Gex shuts down the console and slips away with Xtra to an off‑screen romance.
