Summary
Evil Zone caught my attention back when I dusted off my old PlayStation. The roster of ten fighters each feels distinct, from a guardian angel to a self‑styled wizard, and the arena works in full 3‑D, letting you sidestep and weave around opponents instead of staying stuck on a flat plane. combat relies on just two core actions—attack and guard—but the depth comes from Ultra‑attacks that burn Power Stocks, which you generate by standing still and charging, a mechanic that speeds up the lower your health. If both players dash at the same moment, a tense Pressure Dash erupts, forcing rapid button mashing for a momentary edge. Besides the classic arcade and versus modes, there’s a story mode that feels like flipping through a televised series, offering voice‑acted previews for each character, and a survival round for those who love testing endurance. All these quirks give Evil Zone a surprisingly layered fight experience for a late‑90s console title.
Storyline
Evil Zone's storyline centers on the entity Ihadurca, a being capable of existing in multiple dimensions simultaneously. The inhabitants of I‑Praseru, also called Happy Island, managed to seal her temporarily within a separate dimension known as the Evil Zone. To prevent her return, they organize a multiversal tournament that will crown the strongest warrior to confront and destroy Ihadurca before she can break free. The story mode is presented as an anime, with each playable character receiving a personal title movie and cutscenes narrated by that character. All animated sequences were drawn by the AIC studio, giving the game its distinctive anime‑style presentation.
