Summary

Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout (often just called Final Bout) broke ground as the first North‑American Dragon Ball game and the PlayStation’s last DB title, rendering the fighters in full 3D polygons. The roster blends GT newcomers—Goku, Trunks and Pan—with Z classics like Vegeta, Gohan, Frieza and Buu, and hides extra forms such as Super Saiyan 4 Goku, Vegetto and adult Super Saiyan Goku behind unlocks.

The combat plays out on a 2‑D plane while characters float through 3‑D stages, letting them soar anywhere on the screen. Special Knockout Tricks let each fighter power up a ki blast that the opponent can counter, sparking frantic beam duels. The iconic Meteor Smash combo fires a chain of melee attacks, and a Build‑Up mode lets you train a character to triple‑digit strength and store it on a memory card. Battle, Tournament and Build‑Up variations give both solo and versus options.

Bandai kept the game under wraps until a half‑finished demo hit the 1997 Tokyo Toy Show. It was re‑issued in Europe (2002) and the US (2004) with altered voice work and new cover art. Though it sold just under 20,000 copies in the States and drew criticism for slow pacing, camera glitches, and clunky controls, some reviewers praised the depth of its engine and the visual flash of its ki clashes.

Storyline

Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout (often just called Final Bout) pulls its narrative away from the TV series despite the North American packaging. The roster blends fighters from both Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, giving players a balanced mix of familiar faces.

The story mode doesn’t follow any specific plotline from the anime; instead, it strings together battles that showcase the combined cast. The only opponent you never control is Baby Vegeta in his massive Oozaru form, who appears as the ultimate boss.
