Summary

Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers on the PlayStation feels like a refreshed remix of its Dreamcast and N64 siblings, sporting new graphics and redesigned stages that keep the cartoon chaos familiar yet fresh. Ubisoft Shanghai lifted heavily adapted levels from the Casablanca effort while sprinkling in original layouts, giving the classic Crash‑Bandicoot‑style platforming a duck‑centric twist across twenty‑four stages in four themed warp rooms—Duckie Mountain, Duckburg, Magica De Spell’s Manor and Merlock’s Temple.

The game demands run‑and‑jump reflexes, shifting between side‑scrolling and low‑poly 3D vistas as you dodge comic‑book foes and topple a boss at the end of each warp room. Hidden bonus rounds let you sprint past a bear, outrun the Beagle Boys’ truck, swipe past a ghostly hand and even dodge a wandering statue head, while replaying levels to beat Gladstone’s time rewards extra lives and quirky outfits that alter idle animations.

Ubi Soft Montreal teamed up with Disney Interactive to honor Carl Barks, and Shawn K. Clement supplied the upbeat PlayStation score. Critics gave the title roughly 65 on Metacritic and a 71% GameRankings aggregate, with IGN calling it “a lot of fun” despite its low challenge. All told, it stands as a colorful footnote in ’90s platform history.

Storyline

Goin' Quackers begins with Donald Duck, his rival Gladstone Gander, and inventor Gyro Gearloose watching TV reporter Daisy Duck discover a mysterious, mechanized Aztec‑themed temple ruin belonging to the evil magician Merlock near a volcano. Daisy is promptly kidnapped by Merlock.

Gladstone sets out to rescue her before Donald, who activates Gyro’s new Tubal Teleport System to track Merlock and Daisy. The device lacks enough power, so Donald must plant antennas at key locations to boost its signal.

While doing so he competes with Gladstone, reverses the spells Merlock placed on Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s toys, and battles several bosses, including the Beagle Boys and Magica De Spell.

Finally Donald reaches Merlock’s lair, defeats the sorcerer, and rescues Daisy. The temple collapses as Gyro teleports them back to his lab, where Daisy rewards Donald with a kiss.
