Summary

Die Hard Trilogy crams three distinct arcade‑style adventures onto a single PlayStation disc. The first stage is a third‑person shooter set in the original film, the second shifts to an on‑rails shooter from Die Hard 2, and the final chapter turns into a frantic driving segment featuring a taxi, sports car and dump truck from Die Hard with a Vengeance. The title even works with a light gun, although it ignores Namco’s popular GunCon adapters.

The game was assembled by Probe Entertainment’s small UK crew, who were simultaneously polishing Alien Trilogy and therefore had to squeeze performance from the PlayStation by adding lens‑flare effects and cutting back model detail. Lead programmer Simon Pick later said the team improvised features on the fly with little formal design documentation.

Reviewers praised the massive value‑for‑money, awarding scores in the upper‑eighths and pushing the release into Sony’s Greatest Hits and Platinum collections; it moved over two million units by 2000. In Germany the extreme blood‑splattering violence – such as barreling through innocent pedestrians – earned the game a ban. Despite that controversy, it still ranks in the mid‑80 % range on retrospective aggregators.

Storyline

Die Hard Trilogy on PlayStation blends three classic film scenarios into distinct gameplay styles. The first segment drops you into Nakatomi Plaza, where you fight terrorists and rescue hostages from a third‑person perspective.

The second chapter shifts to an on‑rails shooter set at Dulles Airport, echoing the chaos of Die Hard 2 as you try to stop the hijacked plane’s crew.

The final part lets you roar through New York City in a taxicab, sports car or dump truck, racing against time to locate and defuse a series of bombs, just like the Vengeance movie.
