Summary

Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas rolls out as a three‑in‑one package, shuffling you between third‑person shooter action, light‑gun rail‑shooting and high‑octane car chases all within its seamless "Movie Mode." If you just crave a single genre, the Arcade Mode lets you pick any of the three segments outright. The game amps up enemy AI; foes patrol, react to noise, and you can slip into stealth moments while wielding everything from a flamethrower to a shock rifle and even a jackhammer. It even supports the PlayStation mouse, light‑guns and steering wheels for their respective sections, which feels like a nod to the hardware‑savvy fans of the era.

Critics were split – the PlayStation version snagged three‑star scores, praised for a solid framerate and smooth animations but hammered for dated textures, a glitchy camera, and lackluster gun and driving sections. The music drew a particular ire, especially the main‑menu track recorded by rapper Lil' Zane. Some reviewers, however, highlighted the three distinct engines as a good value, noting it still captured the frantic feel of the Die Hard movies better than many film‑based tie‑ins. Despite its flaws, the title remains a nostalgic showcase of early‑2000s multi‑genre experimentation.

Storyline

In Die Hard Trilogy 2: Viva Las Vegas, NYPD detective John McClane is living in a modest New York apartment when his old friend Kenny Sinclair calls. Sinclair, newly appointed warden of the Mesa Grande Prison, invites McClane to a celebration in Las Vegas. At the party McClane meets casino magnate Reese Hoffman, owner of the Roaring 20’s Casino, and his efficient secretary Elena Goshkin. The festivities are cut short when a prison riot erupts and the dangerous inmate Klaus Von Haug breaks out.

As the action unfolds it becomes clear that Kenny, Reese and Elena are secretly backing the terrorist plot to seize control of the Strip. McClane battles through the chaos, taking down the conspirators one by one. He ultimately confronts Kenny in a final showdown, sparing him only after the threat is neutralized. The game ends with McClane having thwarted the scheme and restored order to Las Vegas.
