Summary
Deception III: Dark Delusion (often just called Dark Delusion) pushes the series’ trap‑setting gimmick into over 2,000 combinations, thanks to a revamped element system that lets you mix Base Circles, Orbs, Emblems and Rings. The game’s advanced 3D polygon graphics render each diabolical contraption from a smooth third‑person perspective, giving the battlefield a surprisingly sleek feel for a 1999 PlayStation title. Four distinct modes keep the experience fresh: a story‑driven Scenario, a tutorial‑heavy Trap License, an endlessly experimental Free Training arena, and a goal‑oriented Expert (mission) mode. Each mode rewards players with new emblems and rings, and all paths converge on four possible endings that can turn Layna’s fate into nightmare or triumph. Critics praised the creativity, with NextGen labeling it a niche title worth checking, GamePro urging dark‑side gamers to “drop a flaming rock,” and Famitsu granting a solid 31/40 score.
Storyline
Deception III: Dark Delusion puts players in the shoes of Reina, a young girl thrust into the harsh world of Burgenhagen after her adoptive family is seized and taken there to be sold into slavery. Clad with a mysterious pendant that draws unwanted attention, Reina discovers she can wield trapping powers inherited from her lineage. Using these abilities, she battles the kidnappers who captured her family and unravels the secrets surrounding the coveted amulet. The game’s main story follows her quest to free her loved ones while uncovering why the pendant is so highly sought after.
