Summary
Darkstalkers 3 landed on the original PlayStation after a 1997 arcade debut, bringing the series’ over‑the‑top style to home consoles worldwide under its familiar casual name. The roster swells with four fresh faces—Jedah, Lilith, Q‑Bee and B.B. Hood—while veterans like Donovan, Huitzil and Pyron disappear, and secret contenders such as Dark Talbain, the hidden boss Oboro Bishamon, and the body‑swap Shadow mode slip in for extra depth.
The fight system drops round‑by‑round resets for a single‑round, double‑life‑bar “Damage Gauge” that heals partially when you avoid damage, a mechanic echoing Killer Instinct. Meanwhile, the “Dark Force” meter splits into a conventional mode or an aggressive “Dark Force Power” mode that drains two bars for irreversible hits.
The 1998 PlayStation EX Edition compiles all three arcade iterations, unlocking every Night Warrior, hidden characters, and the two secret play‑through modes. A 2012 PSN rerelease earned a Teen rating, and a fully remastered version appears in Darkstalkers Resurrection with online play, later bundled in the 2022 Capcom Fighting Collection.
Storyline
Darkstalkers 3 (also known as Vampire Savior) centers on the demonic noble Jedah Dohma, a high‑ranking Makai aristocrat who was resurrected after an untimely death. Observing the chaotic state of the demon world, Jedah concludes that the only salvation lies in rebuilding reality itself. He creates a pocket dimension called Majigen, a twisted realm designed to nurture a new world. To populate it, he summons the souls of fighters from the first two Darkstalkers games, along with three brand‑new combatants, deeming them worthy to feed his creation. The storyline follows these summoned warriors as they confront Jedah’s radical vision and fight to prevent his reborn Makai from becoming a nightmarish nightmare.
