Summary

Crash Bandicoot: Warped (often just called Warped) expands the series by letting players swap between Crash and his sister Coco, each navigating the Time‑Twisting Machine hub. The hub is split into five chambers, each with five buttons that open portals to themed levels where a hidden crystal must be collected; clearing all five levels unlocks a boss button and the next chamber.

The game keeps the classic spin‑attack, slide and body‑slam while adding new box types—Check Point, TNT, and Nitro—that affect both navigation and crystal retrieval. Collecting 100 Wumpa Fruits or breaking special crates grants extra lives, and a robust gem system rewards full crate destruction or secret area completion. Relics earned via timed runs unlock the Secret Warp Room, offering extra challenges even after the main 25 crystals are secured.

Development was a sprint: Naughty Dog had just ten‑and‑a‑half months and a $2 million budget. Three new engines powered the airplane, jet‑ski and motorcycle stages, while water surfaces received reflective environment maps and Crash finally got a proper shadow. Storyline

The story of Crash Bandicoot: Warped picks up immediately after the events of the second game. The wreckage of Doctor Neo Cortex’s space station crashes on Earth, releasing Uka Uka, Aku Aku’s evil twin brother. Uka Uka allies with Cortex and the time‑obsessed Doctor Nefarious Tropy.

Their plan is to gather powerful crystals scattered across time using Tropy’s Time Twisting Machine and use the crystals’ energy to enslave the planet. Aku Aku warns Crash and his sister Coco, who hop into the machine and race through history to collect the crystals before the villains can.

During their journey they defeat Tiny Tiger, Dingodile and Doctor N. Gin. Defeating N. Tropy destabilizes the machine, and after Crash and Coco defeat Cortex and Uka Uka, the device implodes, trapping the three villains in a timeless prison where they are turned into infants.
