Summary

Casper on PlayStation lets me step into the friendly ghost’s shoes while hunting for friendship tokens and piecing together the broken Lazarus machine. The game is presented from a top‑view perspective with pre‑rendered graphics, turning each of its three acts into a tidy puzzle adventure rather than a combat‑heavy beat‑'em‑up. Casper’s journey swings between helping Dr. James Harvey, the therapist for the dead, and dodging his mischievous uncles Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso who love to scare any “fleshies” they encounter. Voice work comes from the original film cast, so Casper, Kat and Dr. Harvey sound just like they did on screen. The visuals were cranked out on Silicon Graphics workstations using Alias software, which gives the characters a glossy, almost film‑like finish that still feels retro‑gaming friendly.

Storyline

The PlayStation title Casper delivers an alternate take on the film’s plot, split into three distinct acts. In the opening act Casper scours the haunted mansion, gathering tokens of friendship to hand to Kat and the scientist Dr. Harvey. The second act shifts focus to the scattered pieces of the Lazarus machine, which the Ghostly Trio have torn apart; Casper must locate and reassemble them. The final act pits him against Carrigan Crittenden, who has stolen the Cellular Integrator, and Casper must retrieve it to restore Dr. Harvey from his ghostly state. Throughout the adventure the mischievous Ghostly Trio serve as recurring antagonists, while Carrigan makes her dramatic appearance at the climax.
